Channeled guide: healing insomnia
(Note: for anyone on the paid list, I just added updates to my angel encounter post at the very end! Click here to read)
So this one is for all of the highly sensitive people out there ✊.
When I went to the UK last summer, I had major insomnia after I landed. Part of it was related to the time-change and part of it was just being a highly sensitive person.
When I fly, I feel the electricity and radiation very strongly. So when I land, my whole body buzzes. It’s very annoying actually.
And this causes me to be unable to settle down and sleep after flights.
I also will get insomnia if I have to get up early for an important event. My mind can run me in circles. And sometimes when I have something “big” coming up the next day, I just accept I won’t sleep.
I recently went on a 30+ hour flight to Bali (it was several flights in a row with layovers) and was so scared for it because I hate the feeling of not sleeping, but I actually did sleep on the plane, which shocked me. I never sleep on planes, but it was because I used some of these tips (and some other things that I will mention at the end) that I arrived in Bali actually not overly tired at all!
Before I left, I wanted to gather some information on how to heal insomnia. Both for my sake and for the other HSPs who suffer with this.
So…this is what I got!
1. Stargazing before bed
So this came through first, and it felt very important.
I heard “stargazer”…”see at night”…”on the ground”…”quiet”…”peace”.
One of the most powerful things you can do to prevent insomnia is to lie on the ground outside and gaze at the stars.
This is something ancient tribes naturally did every night. There was no light pollution, every star could be seen clearly.
I remember this one time when I maybe…14? I was at a cottage and me and the other kids from nearby laid on a trampoline and gazed at the stars for literally 3 hours. It was pitch black and just staring at the stars got us thinking philosophically. It made us realize where we were…how we are apart of “everything”.
We don’t get that experience anymore, instead we stare at TVs that are meant to make us feel more separate from one another 😕.
So…there you go.
If you are suffering from insomnia, go somewhere in the country where there’s no streetlights, lay on the ground and stare at the stars!
I also heard “antelope”…”constellation”, which to me was referring to the Orion constellation which contains a super bright star called “Betelgeuse”.
And this star can be seen from every point on the globe except Antarctica, so maybe that’s why it was mentioned?
2. Causes of insomnia
I asked “what are some of the main causes of insomnia?”.
Overeating
A big thing that came up was overeating and specifically overeating on junk food.
As we sleep we are digesting what we ate during the day. Yeah, kinda TMI but that’s what’s going on.
If you’re eating high amounts of sugar, allergens like GMO soy and corn and general chemical-laden junk food, it’s not gonna be a peaceful sleeping experience.
I have fallen into this while travelling because it’s easy to eat all the cool new junk food I wouldn’t get to try at home.
When I was in England I pretty much had some type of candy everyday cause their candy is just…so good!
BUT…if you are highly sensitive and prone to insomnia, I think it’s important to eat as healthy as possible and I’ll get more into that later on.
Time changes
I also saw a sun moving across the sky quickly like this:
and a plane.
I also heard “morning” and saw a candle flickering in a dark room.
This of course relates to how “light” and changes in light can affect your sleep cycle, especially when you travel.
So, expect to get some insomnia when you change time zones.
BUT…did you know that by holding your phone close to your face at night, you’re unknowingly giving yourself insomnia by self-inflicting jet lag?!
Before smart phones, we used to sit a comfortable distance away from our screens (I don’t remember people saying that the light from TV is affecting our health that bad).
If you’re holding your phone like inches from your face, your brain thinks it’s morning, so you’re not going to get a very deep sleep.
I challenge you to put your phone away when the sun goes down.
Beer and alcohol
I heard “bottle” and “yeast”. This to me pointed to beer.
I know it’s hard to believe…but, yes…sometimes I drink! And sometimes…I drink beer. Not really anymore, but in my twenties, I totally did…even though I hated the taste 🤫.
And at the end of the night, my nerves would technically feel relaxed because the alcohol kinda numbed them out, but when I would wake up at like 4 in the morning as the drunkenness wore off and would feel kinda “wired” and hot and usually wouldn’t even go back to sleep.
I think for highly sensitive people, yeast in the system can cause heightened anxiety, therefore insomnia. This is why we usually feel more calm and peaceful when we reduce sugar and alcohol in our diet 🙂.
Causes of more extreme insomnia
So the things I mentioned above are for more…acute, random spurts of insomnia. But, what about insomnia that is chronic?
I experienced chronic insomnia after getting a mystery neurological illness in 2017 which only lasted for 3 months or so, but after it was over I had to deal with a couple years of PTSD.
I was constantly monitoring my body, afraid that the illness will come back. I had to quit my serving job at the time, so it really upturned my whole life.
So during this time, I would have long bouts of insomnia and it really sucked 😕. Seriously when your sleep has been stolen from you like this, you don’t even feel human. It’s like the ultimate test.
I would miss out on a lot of stuff just because I hadn’t slept for several nights. Have you ever not slept for 5 nights in a row? I really don’t recommend it 😢.
So…this is what I got for this question…
I felt an arrow go through my heart area.
I heard “target”.
So this to me pointed to heartbreak.
Have you ever not slept after losing someone you loved? I think we’ve all experienced this.
I also heard “hug”. Which I thought was very sweet…
Insomnia could be the result of feeling alone, feeling outed from the tribe. You just need a hug from someone you trust to help put your heart back together 🙂.
I also got: ”alone”…”phone'“…”fearing” and this to me pointed to a chronic, under-the-radar heartbreak that’s going on in our society at large.
It’s just a general “separation” that’s going on, disconnecting us by replacing real interaction with screens and social media.
This subconscious feeling of separation could be a cause of insomnia. You can’t fully relax because you feel like an outsider.
3. Foods/herbs/supplements to focus on
What are some foods or supplements we can focus on to prevent insomnia?
Milk and honey
I saw a white milkshake-looking drink. And had the knowingness of “milk and honey” (YES, I’m exercising my claircognizance and sentience more now and it’s working!)
Ancient cultures (specifically the middle east and Egypt) prized milk and honey and equated it with the nourishing qualities of the female form:
Milk has everything a baby needs to thrive in their first few months of life and is generally full of protein, vitamins and minerals (I’m talking about the raw, natural milk that they would have had back then, not the processed milk we have today).
I mentioned in my acne post that modern milk can cause inflammation in some people. Wouldn’t recommend processed milk (especially milk that’s made in the US) if you have a sensitivity.
And mix some honey in! Honey (good, raw honey) is known to have mega medicinal qualities…
I actually use this honey from Beekeepers naturals on my face when I have a breakout:
and everything is literally clear in the morning. It’s nuts.
Honey can heal wounds when applied topically, imagine what it’s doing when you eat it!
So, try some milk and honey before bed (if you can find raw, natural milk), if not…have raw honey with some coconut milk or homemade nut milk, yum 😋.
This drink would kind of act as a bedtime “snack” I guess, which was also emphasized a lot throughout this reading.
Having something small to eat before bed I think would be good for blood sugar and keeping you calm, and I think a high-protein drink would be even better because it won’t upset your digestion.
Have a big breakfast!
I heard “breakfast” and saw a huge plate of food.
If you are an HSP (highly sensitive person) experiencing insomnia, I think you’d be better off eating more calories in the beginning of the day versus at the end so that your digestive system won’t wake you up throughout the night.
This is especially key for highly sensitive people because, since our nerves are so sensitive, any little movement happening in our body can kinda disrupt our brain.
You have heard the gut and brain are connected right?
So eat a big breakfast and a smaller dinner for a calmer, more peaceful sleep.
Cinnamon
I heard “cinnamon” a LOT. Cinnamon seems to be very good for insomnia…
There was a study done recently on the anti-insomnia effects of it.
The study measured that 50 mg of cinnamon extract per kg of body weight was enough to balance neurotransmitters in the brain and induce sleep.
Interesting…
Cinnamon is actually one of my favorite teas! This one is really good, it’s just plain cinnamon and cardamom:
Definitely gonna drink cinnamon tea next time insomnia hits ✊.
4. The importance of safety
Oh boy, this is a big one. I kept getting references to “safety”.
I got “glass”, “round”, “safe”…and I think they were referring to a meditation I sometimes do where I envision a glass bubble around me and picture things bouncing off it.
It’s one of the ways I allow psychic messages to come in (body safety = stronger psychic abilities believe it or not) and I talk more about this in my spirit guides book:
But seriously, if you’re a highly sensitive person, a big cause of insomnia could be feeling unsafe and I’ve learned it’s not really enough to “pretend” you’re safe and to kinda meditate your way out of it.
This works when you want to heighten psychic abilities or for other purposes, but for insomnia…it really helps when you sincerely feel safe in your environment.
This is why whenever I travel and have to stay in hostels, I would make it a point to talk to everyone in the room and kinda get to know them, because I can’t sleep with strangers in the room, I need to see them, talk to them, know what they’re up to lol.
It’s important! You need to feel safe in the “tribe”. This stuff is ingrained in your biology.
5. Aquamarine
It’s the time in the reading where I find crystals for us 🙂.
I heard “frost”, “water”, “aqua”. This pointed to aquamarine!
I have actually tested aquamarine and it’s in my top 5 list for crystals that will actually benefit highly sensitive people and not unground them (which can cause anxiety symptoms).
At least for me, I can keep aquamarine on me for months and no crazy spiritual activations will happen. It just makes you more peaceful and calm (same with rose quartz).
This is what Tiny Rituals had to say about it:
I personally prefer the more green-blue tone, you can get it in a “sky blue” color. But I like that aquamarine ocean hue. Anything that brings the mermaid vibes is fine with me 🧜♀️.
6. Energetic Medicine
I got quite a bit for this section which doesn’t surprise me! Health is closely tied to your energy, so anything you can do to change your quality of energy will change your body and brain.
Sing and dance
I heard the word “sing” and also “rain”…”tap”…this led me to Gene Kelly’s tap routine from “Singing in the Rain” (if you haven’t seen this movie, you must. It’s one of my favorite movie musicals ever 🖤…)
So in this scene, Gene Kelly is singing and dancing even though it’s pouring rain.
It doesn’t matter what his outer environment looks like. The sun’s in his heart, he’s happy inside! Whooooaaa.
And I took this as, when you’re going through insomnia or a difficult situation that’s causing you not to sleep, it’s still possible to sing. It’s that idea of…things aren’t as bad as they seem 😌.
Turn on your favorite music and sing-along, I do this all the time. See if it changes how you feel about your situation.
Clean your room
I saw drawers with clothes hanging out like this:
This to me pointed to cleaning your room. It’s easy to neglect cleaning when you’ve fallen into a stressful situation or you haven’t slept for several nights but keeping your bedroom clean I think would help with your sleep.
Some people say that messes can kind of “invoke” malevolent spirits. I haven’t officially experienced this, but it’s possible that it inspires a more murky energy.
So…clean your room (why do I imagine Jordan Peterson’s voice every time I say that… lol).
Check your dopamine
I saw a slot machine and this pointed to addiction, specifically phone addiction! This is HUGE.
Your smart phone is designed to be addictive and the same way people can get addicted to gambling, people can get addicted to constantly checking their phone for messages or even worse…doom scrolling.
I just think…social media use really needs to be controlled. Like alcohol, drugs or anything else that can be addictive, honestly.
I try my best to block my apps in 24-hour increments.
So I post what I need to post in the morning, respond to messages, look at the accounts I actually care about and then SHUT IT DOWN until the next morning.
I use Freedom to do this, but there are several apps out there you can use to block your apps.
This will literally keep your brain chemistry in balance AND, reduce that chronic heartbreak our society is hypnotizing us into, oof.
Fire
Fire came up A LOT and I will be honest, I’m not 100% sure why.
There’s something about sitting around a fire pit before bed that kinda sets your mind straight.
It’s that idea of feeling a part of nature, being part of the tribe. It does something to our brains and also knowing that we have light if we need it I think could make a difference, because being in the dark could mean danger.
I could totally see how fire could bring a sense of security and pretty much…”power” to your spirit. Hmm…
7. Bedtime routine
Some things you can do before bed to prevent insomnia…
I got the word: “read”, preferably by candle light.
Extended focus like reading is a meditation in itself that is good for the brain and for your dopamine levels.
The book “The Shallows” by Nicholas Carr goes more into this and is actually super interesting.
It’s pretty much about how reading can transform our brain chemistry! It’s one of the best things we can do, especially before bed.
Also heard “safe”. A reminder to make sure you’re in a safe environment and if you generally don’t feel safe about something going on in your life, do what you need to do to free yourself from it. Easier said than done but, yeah…
Have a snack before bed that won’t disrupt your digestion too much. Milk and honey would be good ofc!!
Also got “sheep”, “downy” and downy means soft and fluffy. So…cover yourself is super soft, comfortable blankets 🐑. Of course!!
And this isn’t channeled but I’m adding my own tip:
Lifeflo Magnesium Spray, as suggested by Kikimancy.
You have to get this brand or something comparable. I’ve tried others and they are not nearly as strong as this one.
Before bed, I will spray this all over myself (and you have to let it dry because at first it feels kinda slippery, but then it eventually dries).
And I swear, it’s like taking an anti-anxiety pill, super powerful…
